Vilgain Kukicha is a traditional Japanese green tea made from the delicate twigs, stems, and petioles of the Camellia sinensis tea plant that remain after processing premium teas such as Sencha or Gyokuro. Thanks to its low caffeine content, it has a delicate, sweetish to nutty taste with a pleasant umami tone that distinguishes it from other green teas, and is therefore ideal for evening sipping or for more sensitive people.

Traditional "mottainai" tea - don't waste, use everything

In Japan, Kukicha used to be known as the tea of ​​farmers and tea masters. They sold the leaves, while they kept the twigs and stems for their own use. This drink thus symbolizes the philosophy of mottainai - appreciating the entire gift of nature and not wasting what the tea plant has to offer.

Processing in accordance with tradition

Making Kukicha is a time- and labor-intensive process. After being separated from the leaves, the delicate stems and petioles are steamed, dried, and lightly roasted to develop their characteristic flavor. Thanks to careful temperature control at every step, the tea retains not only its aroma and flavor, but also nutritional value.

A rich source of minerals and antioxidants

Although it contains less caffeine, Kukicha is full of valuable substances. The stems and branches contain amino acids, minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium, as well as trace elements. In addition, the leaf petioles give the tea a slightly sweet taste thanks to lignins and polysaccharides. Catechins and flavonoids in traditional culture support the body's natural defenses.

Instructions for use

  • Pour 0.5 l of water (temperature 70‑80 °C) over 7 g of tea (2 tablespoons).
  • Let steep 1–1.5 minutes.
  • Suitable for preparing two or more infusions and for cold steeping.
  • Number of servings: 7.
